Food Safety

With reputations on the line, tougher sentences for compliance breaches and increasing awareness of Food Hygiene Ratings, it has never been more important for food service businesses to operate to the highest standards.

Food hygiene ratings

The scheme aims to help consumers choose where to eat out or shop for food by giving them information about the hygiene standards in restaurants, cafés, takeaways, hotels and food shops.

The ratings are awarded to places where members of the public can eat out. Ratings are also given to other places such as schools, hospitals and residential care homes.

Places where the public shop for food, such as supermarkets, bakeries, and delicatessens are also given a rating.

The overarching aim of the scheme is to encourage businesses to improve hygiene standards, thus reducing the incidence of food borne illness.

How can Five Star Compliance help?

Five Star Compliance can provide a bespoke Food Safety Management System that when fully implemented, followed and maintained, can help your business to achieve, or work towards, the ‘very good’ hygiene standard rating operated by the National Food Hygiene Rating Scheme.

A complete package of due diligence records, generic and validation of specific HACCP plans, will demonstrate to Environmental Health Officers (EHOs) that you are aware of all the hazards in your food business and that by following the HACCP plans and the appropriate pre requisites, you’ll invariably achieve a Five Star Rating.

Food Poisoning Allegations

What are food poisoning allegations?

Every year, around one million people in the UK suffer from a food-borne illness. While food-borne illnesses can originate from almost anywhere, most people will assume what caused their illness is the last food they ate. This can be a significant problem if a customer believes their food poisoning originated from your business. Food poisoning allegations can threaten businesses and livelihoods. If you receive a food poisoning allegation, you need to act fast.

Why you need to act on food poisoning allegations

A good reputation can take years to establish but can be instantly destroyed by an allegation. This can happen almost instantly in the age of social media. While you may refuse to believe the problem came from your kitchen, your customers are unwell, and you need to take the matter seriously.
